This page explains what CareTax collects, why it is collected, and how household payroll records are handled.

Overview
CareTax is a guide, calculator, and recordkeeping tool for household employers. We collect the minimum information needed to authenticate users, save household payroll records, generate reference documents, and support billing.
Information We Collect
- Account information such as name, email address, password hash, and optional profile image.
- Household employer data including employer profile, state, filing preferences, and tax settings.
- Employee record data such as display name, compensation settings, leave balances, and pay run history.
- Billing metadata such as Stripe customer IDs, subscription status, and access grants.
- Operational logs such as audit history and service-side debugging information.
How We Use Information
- To operate the app and save payroll calculations and historical records.
- To authenticate users and manage account security.
- To deliver billing, access control, and year-end document features.
- To troubleshoot product issues, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not run payroll, move money, or file taxes on your behalf.
- We do not provide legal or tax advice.
- We do not intentionally sell household payroll data to third parties.
Third-Party Services
CareTax relies on third-party providers to operate the product, including Vercel for hosting, Neon/Postgres for application data, Auth.js and Google for authentication, and Stripe for billing. These providers may process data as needed to deliver their infrastructure or payment services.
Data Retention
We retain account and payroll record data for as long as your account remains active or as needed to preserve household records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our terms.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect account and payroll data, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
Your Choices
- You can review and update most employer and employee information inside the app.
- You can cancel paid access through Stripe's customer portal when available.
- You can contact us to request account support or deletion review.
